CLIL updates

Welcome to another week of CLILing here at MMU.  We have been busy working with our centre for teaching and learning excellence, CELT to produce a couple of short CLIL training/development videos which you can view by clicking on the links below:

We do hope you'll find them useful and/or interesting and would welcome feedback/comments from anyone interested in finding out more about what we are trying to do here at MMU and even better - if you'd like to get involved in working collaboratively with us!  You can also find out more about our Knowledge Transfer Partnership project by clicking on this link to a recent on-line article -

Will update soon but let's get the CLIL message out there!

Welcome back and more exciting CLIL activities happening @MMU

Welcome back after the summer break!  Looking forward to another exciting and busy year.  Our Knowledge Exchange Partnership has finally got underway and things are developing nicely.  We have also had approval from MMU for two CLIL training events -the first a one day conference on 3rd November, the second a much more ambitious affair - a one week training course for all teachers wanting to learn more about the potential for CLIL, sharing ideas and offering support for moving things forward. Our CLIL summer school will take place the week beginning 13th July 2016.  We do hope many of you will join us and help to begin to develop a CLIL network to share good practice within the UK and the rest of Europe.  For more information email s.lister@mmu.ac.uk/p.m.palmer@mmu.ac.uk or tweet us at #MMU_CLIL

As part of our KTP project working with a software company to develop a range of innovative and interactive game based materials to teach aspects of Mathematics through French, we are looking for school to trial these resources and be part of our research project, helping to identify best practice and look into the impact of a CLIL approach on children's mathematical knowledge and understanding and their language learning.   You can also have access to our Associate who can help you embed these materials into your school and practice.  And what's more it's all free!  Come and be involved in something that can really help make a difference to what and how our children learn!

We look forward to hearing from you!

CLIL workshop - Mathematics through French

Come along to the MMU Partnership Conference on Friday 10th July and take part in a really fun, engaging and stimulating way to learn Mathematics through French.  Other exciting developments include a CLIL Professional Development day to be held at MMU on 3rd November 2015.  Look out for more information to follow.  We are looking for and are keen to identify primary schools who want to work with us in our new and exciting project to develop innovative software based teaching and learning materials to facilitate the teaching of aspects of the primary Mathematics curriculum through French.  We are looking for schools and colleagues to trail and evaluate these products throughout the development and implementation phase of the project.  Please do get in touch if you're interested and want to know more either via our twitter account@MMUCLIL or email at s.lister@mmu.ac.uk.

Welcome to CLIL at MMU

My name is Sarah Lister and I am senior lecturer in Modern Foreign Languages (MfL) at MMU. I am really interested in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and how it can be used to teach other areas of the curriculum through a foreign language.

Sarah has been employed at MMU since 2008.  Prior to that she spent 13 years working in a variety of secondary school settings including roles in management, e.g. Head of French and Head of MFL.  She has also taught MFL at primary school level.
